The Late Most Venerable Phra Prom Mongkol Vi.

(Ven. Phra Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo)

The Abbot and Founding Director of the Vipassana Meditation Centre at Wat Phradhatu Sri Chomtong Voravihara, Chiang Mai province.
The Late Ven. Phra Prom Mongkol Vi (Ven. Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo) dedicated his life to the practise and dissemination of Vipassana Meditation and is one of the most highly revered Vipassana Masters in Thailand. 

Known widely for his exceptional conduct and teachings.
Officially honored in 2017 as the leading Vipassana Meditation Teacher of Thailand by HRH King Maha Vajiralongkorn.

In March 2011, Ven. Phra Prom Mongkol Vi (Ven. Phra Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo) received the honorary title “Agga Maha Kammatthana Cariya” (The Highest-Ranking Monk in Vipassana Meditation) from the Government of Myanmar.

The Most Venerable Phra Prom Mongkol Vi. (Ven. Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo) taught Vipassana Satipatthana in Thailand and world wide for over 60 years. He passed away on December 13th 2019 at the age of 96.

The Northern Vipassana International Meditation Centre, Thailand

The Northern Vipassana International Meditation Center is located in Chom Tong, in the Chiang Mai province of Thailand. The Temple, Wat Phradhatu Sri Chom Tong Voravihara (The Royal Buddhist Temple), is situated on a Holy Buddhist Site with a history dating back more than 2500 years. Enshrined inside the main Temple is a highly revered relic of the Lord Buddha.

Located next to the Temple is The Northern Vipassana International Meditation Centre, the original International Department of Wat Chom Tong. Founded in the year 2000 by senior disciples Khun Thanat and Khun Kathryn Chindaporn.
Established on the clear instruction from the The Late Venerable Phra Prom Mongkol Vi (Ven. Phra Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo).

Teacher, Khun Thanat Chindaporn

Founding Director of the Northern Vipassana International Meditation Centre, Thailand.

Professeur, Khun Thanat Chindaporn, disciple principal de The Late. Vén. Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo étudiait Vipassana depuis le milieu des années 1980. En 2004, il a reçu le prix Sema Dhammacakka et le prix thaïlandais du bienfaiteur du bouddhisme de la province de Chiang Mai en reconnaissance pour la diffusion internationale du bouddhisme. 

En tant que responsable de l’enseignement du Centre international de méditation Vipassana du Nord, Khun Thanat a dirigé la formation et l’expansion des enseignants, des centres et des sympathisants Vipassana dans le monde entier.

Khun Thanat passed away on the 31st of March 2022 at the age of 80. Our respected and beloved Teacher is survived by his wife Khun Kathryn, 5 children, 9 grandchildren, 17 foster children and countless devoted meditation students from across the world. His kindness, wisdom and outstanding generosity have helped 1000’s.

Due to his complete dedication, spanning four decades, to sharing the highest gift of Dhamma, there are currently 28 international Vipassana Centres and groups established under his leadership.

Teacher, Khun Kathryn Chindaporn

Founding co-Director of the Northern Vipassana International Meditation Centre, Thailand.

Teacher Khun Kathryn Chindaporn has studied Vipassana since 1986 and is a senior disciple to The Late. Ven. Ajarn Tong Sirimangalo. Since 1989 Khun Kathryn, has interpreted for Thai Meditation Masters, published 5 Thai-English Buddhist translations and appeared as guest speaker on Thai, Mexican and US television and radio.

Khun Kathryn has previously taught Buddhist studies at the University of Chiang Mai and is the Director and Head of Teaching at the Northern Vipassana International Meditation Centre in Chom Tong, Thailand.

In 2000, she received the Benefactor of Buddhism Award of Chiang Mai Province and the Sema Dhammacakka Award in recognition of international dissemination of Buddhism, the latter conferred by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand.
